Ceramic chimneys - MK KOLEKT

Modular ceramic chimney system - multi layered chimney system. The standard elements of the system: expanded clay blocks, mineral wool and ceramic elements. We can offer two types of ceramic elements: universal ceramic element and special ceramic, which is used with heating devices, which works long time in high temperature, for example: sauna.

Modular chimney system MK KOLEKT is used not only with modern solid and liquid fuel boilers (temperature below 200oC), but also with modern heating systems. Three-layers chimney system is fully insulated with mineral wool and corresponds the highest requirements for chimney system elements. Ceramic elements produced by the German manufacturer, in Germany, corresponds A1N1/B4N1 class requerements. Ceramic chimney system parts are resistant to soot ignition also low and high temperatures (60oC - 600oC). Ceramic liner has smooth surface and is highly resistant to condensate effect (resistant to aggressive corrosive factors). In the three-layers chimney system MK KOLEKT is used special shaped insulation, which fills the air gap between the ceramic elements and chimney blocks. Unlike MK KOLEKT with universal ceramic elements, MK KOLEKT with AT ceramic characterized by an increased resistance to temperature changes. Chimney system is used with heating devices, which uses solid fuel. German AT ceramic is made not using formation method, but using pressing method, where is used more dry material (the biggest part of material - chamotte). Beside of 18% humidity of material, humidity of AT ceramic material is only 4%. This material fills forms and then it's pressed with hydraulic press. Three-layered chimney system MK KOLEKT with AT ceramic elements consists of: chimney blocks, mineral wool, ceramic elements and other accessories. Standard chimney system complectation: chimney blocks, mineral wool, which fill air gap between ceramic elements and chimney blocks, ceramic elements (flue liners, cleanout, connection tee), glues for ceramic elements, other accessories (doors, vent. grills, chimney ending).

MK KOLEKT installation guide

Careful chimney installation will ensure long and flawless functioning of the chimney system.

Before starting assembling chimney, You must decide: where would be cleanup doors, at which height tee must be installed. If ventilation channel is near chimney, predict ventilation channel height. Free-standing part of the chimney must be statically reinforced. This can be done by fitting the reinforcing bars. Reinforcing bars must be centered inside holes at the corners of blocks, mixed grouting mortar poured into the reinforcing channels.

  1. Build the chimney on a pre-prepared concrete foundation.
  2. Connect blocks using mortar.
  3. Place mortar on the walls of blocks (ventilation channels at the corners of blocks and mineral wool must not contact with mortar).
  4. Ceramic elements are connected with special acid-resistant glue. Before lubricating glue You must clean ceramic tube edges. Clean the end of the ceramic flue pipe with a sponge before lubricating glue.
  5. Connect condensation container to the drain.

If installation is done with a few days break, chimney must be protected from humidity.

1 Sub-floor construction
  1. Lay insulation material;
  2. Construct 20-30 cm sub-floor from concrete or masonry;
  3. Or first chimney block fill up with mortar.

Beginning of construction 2
  1. Mark out size of the hole onto chimney block wall;
  2. Cut marked hole with angle grinder and put in ventilation grills;
  3. Place the first precut chimney block on the mortar;/li>
  4. Place inside block condensation container. Place container on the mortar, turn drainage pipe to the side of pre-cut hole.<

3 Installation of the inspection pipe
  1. Mark out size of the inspection pipe hole onto chimney block wall;
  2. Cut marked hole with angle grinder;
  3. Place block on a bed of mortar;
  4. Insert insulation into the block and cut mineral wool along the hole;
  5. Clean edges of the condensation container and spread high temperature sealant;
  6. Insert inspection pipe;
  7. Insert insulation into next block and place on previous block with mortar.

Installation of the junction pipe 4
  1. Mark out size of the junction pipe hole onto chimney block wall;
  2. Cut marked hole with angle grinder and place pre-cut block on a bed of mortar;
  3. Insert insulation into the block and cut of, so it would not block hole;
  4. Clean edges of ceramic pipe and spread high temperature sealant on it;
  5. Insert junction pipe;
  6. Remove excess ceramic sealant with a sponge;
  7. Insert insulation into next block and place on previous block with mortar.
Junction pipe must be connected with device using special adapter, normal chimney liner can not be used for this task!

5 Standard installation steps
  1. Place block on a bed of mortar;
  2. Into chimney block insert insulation;
  3. Clean edges of ceramic pipe and spread high temperature sealant on it;
  4. Insert ceramic pipe;
  5. Remove excess ceramic sealant with a sponge.
Steps must be repeated till ending of chimney.

Completion of the chimney top 6
  1. Mineral wool in last block must be shorter;
  2. Before inserting last ceramic pipe, shorten it with angle grinder;
  3. Clean edges of ceramic pipe and spread high temperature sealant on it;
  4. Insert ceramic pipe.

7 Fastening upper package
  1. Insert fastener into block to special fastener holes;
  2. Fastener must not be inserted fully, You should leave about 1 cm space;
  3. Place upper package on the last block and tighten it with screw.

MK KOLEKT construction advice

1 ADVICE: junction of ceramic flue liner
Keep attention at junctions of ceramic flue liners. Ceramic flue liners connect between each other with specially shaped junction. Ceramic element must always go in to the lower ceramic element. The Bottom of ceramic liner must be with male socket which let to place liner inside other. The top of the ceramic liner must be with female socket.

2 ADVICE: insulation junctions
Before placing in insulation, make sure that junction between 2 mineral wool parts will be not at ventilation holes. Mineral wool junctions between 2 parts must be turned to one of four block wall. If You place mineral wool correctly, then it will form circle around ceramic element and it will function as it should be.

3 ADVICE: chimney clearance
There must be distance of 2 - 3 cm, between chimney and walls of holes per roof or floor joint, if constructions are flammable - at least 5 cm. Clearance between chimney and holes can be filled with heat resistant mineral wool.

4 ADVICE: ceramic flue tee and cleanout
 
  • Before cutting holes in chimney blocks for tee, make sure that there will be left some gap between ceramic elements and walls of hole, so ceramic element has enough space to move when it gets hot.
  • We may offer connection adapter which goes on top of connection tee, if You are using connection adapter which goes inside of connection tee, make sure that there will be not used heat-resistant rigid rope to fill air gap between connection tee and adapter walls. Heat-resistant rope must be soft when it's used connection adapter which goes inside connection tee.
